The Dreamer’s Path
by Joy on Jun.20, 2008, under Photography
Ah finally a post of photos that are NOT from the Kingston reservoir! This was a hike i went on earlier this spring! I have only looked at and edited a few of the photos from that day. Here they are though. I believe these would be called Photo manipulations. Not quite sure but they are not at all anything like the original photos sept for the first one!
The first one was a simple job of adding a little more contrast to the picture. Simple things can do so much! I really like that shot because it just seems to pull you in! You look at it and you almost feel like your their on the path getting ready for a hike! It is one of those profound things that you just dont know WHAT it is that makes you feel how your feeling when you experience it. To me any way that what its like. I could just stare at that photo for a long time and feel like i’m actually there! Do you agree? And a word i have been using lately it is a very intriguing image.
Now "The Dreamer’s Path 2" is my 2nd fav of this set. Though I had to change the color major! I was fiddling with different blending modes trying to make the image darker (it was originally WAY to light) and one mode seemed to make the image more gold and dark… then it hit me! GOLD! So i made the picture more golden! I like the finished piece. Unfortunately both of those "Dreamer’s Path" shots were motion blurred because i shook the camera when taking it. So to cover that up a little but also to add effect I added that zooming effect. It makes for a neat piece though! I don’t know about you all but i also like them in Black and White.
So what do you all think of these? They are some of my favorites! do you guys think i am improving?
The Fallen
by Joy on Jun.19, 2008, under Photography
Here are some more photo’s I took at the Kingston Reservoir. One of a fallen sign and 2 drains. Kinda Strange things to photograph eh? But they make for real good art! lol
When I took the picture of the first drain (the round one) this feeling of coolness and interestingness lol came over me. To make it more interesting I had my mom stand in front of it to cast a shadow and I put my foot in the picture. For whatever strange reason it makes a very intriguing photo. The 2nd drain unfortunately was already in shadow. So as you can see I had my mom make a shadow on the ground next to it. Ya weird! That one is not as interesting but still kinda cool.
The Fallen is my favorite. Though it took me a heck of a long time to edit because I photographed it at a bad angle! I have now learned to photograph things at several angles to make your job easier later. I spent literally hours rotating that photo around and around till finally i got 2 angles i liked that still had enough of the original photo in it when it was cropped. The end result is very grand though.
And the Flowers are just a random photo of pretty flowers! practicing my "macro photography" though i need a higher millimeter focus or whatever its called.
I hope i can get one of those cool looking big fancy cameras with the interchangeable lenses one day soon! But nothing to fancy i want the picture to be good looking not the camera. I been reading that some times people buy all these hightech junk for their camera that they REALLY don’t need in the first place! Oh and another cool thing i saw the other day that i would LOVE to get into is "infrared photography." The science of it is to complicated to explain so if you want know look that up yourself but basically you get this filter that blocks out all visible light from the camera lens. When i say visible light i literally mean the light that our eyes can see! So it blocks out that light BUT lets in what is called infrared light or infrared radiation which our eyes cannot see… and so any way it makes for a very cool photograph!
Here are some results of this type of photography. As you can see most of the shots are of landscapes. Why that is I don’t know but it has something to do with the fact that trees leaves the color green work best with that type of photography or something! Look it up if you want to know why…lol Be careful if you start browsing deviant though. Not all the photographs and stuff on there are safe.
One of my favorites is "The Fisherman"
Ok im done blabbing now!
A Statement!
by Joy on Jun.12, 2008, under The Rest of my Life
If you would please take a look at the first image in this post. Tim and I have teamed together to "Make a statement" as Josh put it. We look pretty darn good doing it too! What this unusual statement is we dont know but it say something! Weather its a good or bad statement that is up to you to decide. But let me just say…. Black flowered swim shorts ROCK! And I am sure Tim would say the same!
Ok the real story behind this "statement" is I was having problems with my flimsy swim shorts on the slip n’ slide (read later in this post) so Tim offered his extra pair of swim shorts which is a double of his own shorts. So I put it on over top of my swim shorts. I loved the look so much i had to take a picture with Tim. lol Any who…..
Yesterday I went to the Holmes to just have fun! We had wanted to go to White pond the day before but Mrs. Holmes was not up to it. So we settled the next day just for having some fun with water. It just so happened that the Ackley’s (another homeschool family) was coming over too. So they brought their Slip n’ slide and we set it up! I am sure you have heard of one. If not then you will see it in the pictures, its like a slide but on the ground made of plastic and its wet which makes it slippery. Fun indeed. After that we played a game kinda like capture the flag with water gun. We played with a human flag too. That was amusing. Then we played extreme concentration. Then the Ackleys left and it was just me and the Holmes. That when things got a little crazy…
Ya its nice talking to and watching Tim and Josh react with each other very amusing. They have the certain great kinda humor. One of those hard to explain things. Different people have different humors. That is something to philosophize about! Any way watch the videos of the day in the video section. There was one part where we got into a debate about video games and real life and what fun is and artificial intelligence and all that. I recorded a bit of that its interesting unfortunately i missed the funny part. I always do! grrr!
One thing I hate about the Holmes’ House in the summer is the bloody blood sucking TICKS! I had a couple yesterday both on my foot! One i found on my right foot on the top of it and Tim picked it off. The other i found when i got home. It was dead and squished already on my left foot. So annoying! Oh and no offense to you guys I love your house and all but those little devils!
My Friend Tina’s Senior Recital
by Joy on Jun.09, 2008, under Photography, The Rest of my Life
Well sorry first of all for not posting in so long. I was to busy studying for the stupid SAT Test! Bloody evil…. Any who…. So last Thursday night Tina had me come to her Senior Recital at her school. It was a bunch of high school senior musicians who formed bands with other students that got together and performed for the event. Tina and a few others had solo’s. It was a lot of fun if you like to listen to that sort of music. (I do believe it or not and its all TINA’S FAULT! lol) There was some classical and some jazz and some other undefined sounds. Over all i loved it though! It was mostly "woodwind instruments" (is that what they are called) like flutes, clarinets, trumpets, a trombone, weird looking blowable instruments that i don’t have the slightest clue what they are…. and i believe even saxophones! But then there was a few pianists and stringed instruments including Violin, cello and a guitarist in one of the bands, and then the drummers too! Moving on….
I also finally was able to meet Tina’s Boyfriend Bobby (yes a new one but not that new) But he is awesome! One thing good is he is Christian or at least grew up in church and does believe in God and Jesus for the most part. Also he is SOOOOOOO SWEET! He is almost TO MUCH of a Gentlemen! He is really great i love him! lol So he was one of the performers as well. He plays the violin.
Now let me tell you a few good stories about this adventure into my first high school! As i got out of the car i said to Tina I have never been in a high school before! I couldn’t believe it myself but it was true i have been in a middle school before but never a high school! Well it was a short but fun adventure. I did in fact walk around the school for a bit. I didnt go to far but a funny thing happened…. Do you know if there is anything that has to do with photography or graphics or art i will find it! My instinct and passion lead me right too the photography and ceramics rooms. On the wall was this big bulletin full of black and white photographs. And right next to it was the coolest thing! AN ACTUAL DARK ROOM! Real old fashion dark room! I dare not enter the one that was not being used but it was very awesome just to stand outside the closed door! lol Well it was time to return to the lobby and not long after in from the outside comes Caleb! And you wont believe this… Remeber the story about his "I’m clean" shirt that he wore at my birthday party and then the next day josh saw im in the same shirt? well HE WAS WEARING IT! I didn’t say anything about it just giggled to myself! He however was there for some other reason and i didnt see him again after that.
Finally the doors were open and we entered the auditorium. Now on the walls there were many many posters of previous plays i guess they had done. There were some good ones too look at the pictures to see the ones i know you all will like! So finally the show started. It came to the time when some of the student had to go out on stage and change things around like moveing chairs and music stands etc. Now during these times there was this fellow or fellest in the audience who decided to be very amusing, And it was very funny had every one in the audience laughing! Every time these chaps would come out on stage to move things this person would whistle at them. You know that whistle that one does when the find some one good looking. lol So every other time or so after the performances whenever these chaps would come out this audiance member whistled at them! He or she never did it for the girls just these 2 chaps and once even when the conductor was out there changing things! it was very funny. The whole audiance began to laugh at this.
Finally at the end what i found very cool and you will notice this in the middle of the video that the conductor is wearing a shirt. Well his students gave him a t-shirt with his favorite "saying" on it. The story behind it because his students you know they are a bit rowdy and they knew it. So they gave him this shirt that said Silent Listen on it. The story was that the teacher was always telling the kids how the words silent and listen have all the same letters in them. So if you rearrange silent you get listen. So he was always telling them if you want to learn you have to be silent and listen. It was great that he took his jacket off and put the shirt right on during the show. I thought that was very cool.
So this is the end of my story. You can see parts of the show on the video page including all of Tina’s performance! You may want to skip a little but i tried to get the most interesting parts of each song. there is this real fun performance in the middle though. 2 girls decided to play pink panther and mission impossible theme music that is really cool so be sure to listen to that. My favorite is the jazz though. No they are not pros but they were having fun and thats all that counts and i like it! Here is some of the "photography" of the night.
